Bio/Description

Jonathan A. Romero is a fifth-year graduate student at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Institute for English Philology and the Peter Szondi Institute of Comparative Literature at Freie Universitaet Berlin.  At Princeton he was the recipient of the 2019 Lassen Fellowship for commitment to the study of Latin America from the Program in Latin American Studies.  He has also collaborated with the Brazil LAB as a research fellow and with PIIRS as a Teaching Fellow for its Global History Dialogues program. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on global history and cultural studies at Princeton, the UNTREF in Argentina, and the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. From 2022 to 2023, he was a researcher in residence at the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid and part of the museum's experimental program for advanced studies, "Tejidos Conjuntivos." His research delves into the urban history of Berlin during the Cold War as experienced and portrayed by its Latin American and Spanish diaspora

After gathering extensive experience as a researcher in residence at the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, I am keen to explore how cultural institutions can work as spaces for community building to bridge local communities with the global culture of metropolises.  I am constantly seeking how to incorporate the experience of minor historical actors into designing cultural development projects with long-term social impact.

Since the moment I reached out to GradFUTURES I was welcomed with the practical mindset that I was searching for in exploring alternative career paths on campus.
