Position Founding Partner, Lightspeed China Partners Role GradFUTURES Forum Speaker Bio/Description James is Founding Partner of Lightspeed China Partners (LCP), a leading China-focused early-stage venture capital firm with investments in Internet, mobile, services, and enterprise IT. Previously, James was a Managing Director with Lightspeed Venture Partners (LSVP), having joined the firm in 2008. Headquartered in the Silicon Valley, LSVP manages over $4B in assets and has offices globally. James's investments at LCP and LSVP include many unicorn companies including Lianluo (SHE: 222280), Dianping, Rong360, Innolight (SHE:300308), PDD etc. James was on Forbes Media List of Top 50 Venture Capital Investors in China. James brings 16 years of operations experience at leading high-tech companies and startups. Prior to LSVP, James spearheaded Google’s early efforts in China as chief representative of Google China Rep office, and was responsible for strategies, products and also investments. During this tenure, he led investments in leading Chinese Internet companies, including Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU), Dianping, Xunlei (NASDAQ: XNET) and Ganji (Acquired by 58, NYSE: WUBA). Before joining Google, James co-founded a venture-backed startup, iTelco Communications, a VOIP global communication products and services company. Prior to iTelco, James was with Intel, where he held management positions in engineering, marketing, product management, and business development. He also co-invented MLC NOR Flash technology, which developed into Intel's billion-dollar StrataFlash business. James received a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and a B.S. in Physics from Fudan University. In addition, James received executive management training at Stanford University. James holds 14 U.S. patents in flash memory, communications, Internet security, and commerce. James was named by The Founder Magazine as one of the "Top 10 Most Respected VCs in China".
