Leadership, like technical skills, is an acquired skill. We often admire or decry a leader based on certain attributes and decide to pick what we like or dislike. On the flipside “copying” other leaders, makes you “hide” part of your personal self to fit the mold of the “expected” professional world. As the intellectual pool is becoming more diverse - how do we adapt and recreate an environment that fosters inclusion to drive innovation and excellence? Srikant Iyer is the Associate Director, Science Alliance at New York Academy of Sciences. He leads program development to bridge skill gaps for graduate and post-doctoral fellows. Iyer received his PhD in Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University and was a post-doctoral fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology where he worked in the interdisciplinary field of biomedical, materials science and nanosciences which resulted in a patent and multiple scientific publications. Prior to joining the academy, Iyer was a research scientist at Johns Hopkins University. He developed metrics to quantify diversity and inclusion within academic institutions, organized and facilitated multiple workshops for top 100 STEM departments to increase diversity, inclusion and equity by engaging senior leaders and diverse stakeholders within academia. He can be reached at [email protected] Thursday, April 15, Noon-1:30pm RSVP here. (For alumni and other participants external to Princeton, please register here) The Inclusive Leadership Learning Cohort series is hosted by the GradFUTURES team in the Graduate School. The series offers sessions with the primary goal of preparing graduate students with inclusive leadership skills as a way to combat systemic racism. Leaders with this skillset can help build and sustain inclusive cultures at every level within our institutions, organizations, and communities. As part of this series, guest speakers will share personal stories, practical strategies, and ways they promote individual and collective action. The sessions are open to all. Graduate students interested in earning the co-curricular certificate will find the requirements and assignments on the Canvas site. We look forward to these important conversations and to learning together! Sponsor GradFUTURES Accessibility To request accommodations for this or any event, please contact the organizer or James M.
