Event Description
Join us for a lively conversation led by Ilana Horwitz and Erica Machulak on how entrepreneurial principles are transforming the PhD experience. As authors of two upcoming books—The Entrepreneurial Scholar and Hustles for Humanists—we’ll share how we’ve applied entrepreneurial thinking to succeed as scholars, consultants, and storytellers. We’ll discuss how the PhD journey is about more than mastering a discipline—it’s about making executive decisions, testing new ideas, and creating impact inside and outside academia. Moderated by Matt Rohal, attendees will walk away with actionable strategies to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to their own careers.

This event is hosted by the Princeton University Graduate School as part of the 2025 GradFUTURES Forum, a weeklong professional development conference for graduate students offering opportunities for meaningful professional growth and exploration of futures within and beyond the academy. With many inspiring keynote speakers, interactive workshops, career panels, and networking receptions, the 2025 GradFUTURES Forum is open to the broader graduate community at Princeton and beyond.
