Bio/Description

Sophie Chopin completed her Ph.D. in French studies at Princeton University in 2024, focusing on the intersections of urban planning, cultural memory, and contemporary literature. Her dissertation, Villes Fantômes, examined the literary tradition of ghost cities, exploring how radical urbanization, in the second half of the 20th century, disrupted historical continuity and reshaped collective memory in France.

She also participated as a University Administrative Fellow with the Financials Team in the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School. This experience allowed her to develop an interdisciplinary outlook, bridging her humanities background with an interest in organizational strategy and resource management. In this role, she gained a deeper appreciation for the value of applying humanities expertise to diverse professional contexts, inspiring others to consider non-traditional career trajectories that cross disciplinary boundaries.

While at Princeton, Sophie was a dedicated advocate for undergraduate and graduate students, encouraging them to explore career pathways aligned with their unique skills and passions. As Co-Founder and Treasurer of the French and Francophone Society, she organized a wide array of on-campus events, including film screenings, food tastings, and discussion panels, celebrating the richness of Francophone heritage and fostering cultural exchange within the university community. Her leadership and contributions were highlighted in The Daily Princetonian, where she shared her experiences revitalizing the organization.

Driven by her entrepreneurial mindset, Sophie consistently encouraged students to leverage their academic expertise in creative ways, fostering confidence in pursuing innovative career trajectories. She remains enthusiastic about sharing her experiences and supporting students as they navigate their academic and professional journeys.
